tour of the addams familyUNITED THEATRICAL, ARIA ENTERTAINMENT and MUSIC & LYRICS in association with THE FESTIVAL THEATRE EDINBURGH are launching a UK tour of The Addams Family opening at Edinburgh King's and Festival Theatre on 20th April.

With a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the creators of Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Jersey Boys, the musical comedy will be based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams.

Directed by Matthew White (The Producers), the story follows Wednesday Addams, who's now all grown up and has a shocking secret: she has fallen for a man from a respectable family. Featuring Uncle Fester, Lurch, Pugsley and more it is a heart-warming story of love, family and friendship with  a live orchestra and extraordinary original score. When the two families meet for dinner, will Gomez keep his daughter’s secret from his cherished Morticia, or will there be hilarious consequences?The Addams family host a dinner for her "normal" boyfriend and his parents, which proves to change everything. It has music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish).

Casting news is that After 10 years in  EastEnders playing Ronnie Mitchell Samantha Womack (Guys & Dolls, South Pacific) has been cast as slinky Morticia Addams, Les Dennis, (Hairspray) who is soon leaving Coronation Street is to play Uncle Fester and Carrie Hope Fletcher (Eponine in Les Mis London and Dubai, Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is playing Wednesday. They will be joined by Cameron Blakely/Gomez: Valda Aviks/Grandma: : Grant McIntyre/Pugsley: Dale Rapley/Mal Beineke: Oliver Ormson/Lucas Beineke: Charlotte Page/Alice Beineke: Dickon Gough/Lurch and ensemble/swing members Jessica Buckby, Pérola Congo, Christopher D Hunt, Kirsty Ingram,Rhona McGregor, Scott Paige, Jak Skelly and  Gavin Eden Captain, Jacob Fisher and Kathryn Barnes.

The original Broadway production starred Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth and ran for two years at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, before touring the US.

Addams' original stories were adapted into two Hollywood films in the '90s, The Addams Family and its sequel The Addams Family Values, which starred Anjelica Huston, Raúl Juliá and Christina Ricci.
