SOUTH PACIFIC TOUR

 

tour of South PacificThe 1949 Rogers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific was last seen in the West End in 2001 when it was revived by Trevor Nunn at the National Theatre.

Ambassador Theatre Group's Howard Panter has been very keen to bring the production to the UK, and the award winning Lincoln Center's long-running revival of South Pacific is now on a UK tour.

Set on a tropical island during World War II, South Pacific is the romantic story of two couples who are affected by the realities of war and their own prejudices. Its portrayal of Americans stationed in an alien culture in during the war is as poignant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.

Ex-EastEnders actress Samantha Womack is playing Nellie Forbush with Rebecca Thornhill taking over the role at certain venues. Matthew Cammelle is playing Emile de Becque.

Daniel Koek is Lt Cable and Jodi Kimura is Bloody Mary. Alex Ferns (Nathan Detroit in the Donmar's Guys and Dolls) is Luther Billis.

Considered one of the finest musicals ever written, the score includes Some Enchanted Evening, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair and There is Nothin' Like a Dame.

Bartlett Sher's production won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, before ending its two-year run in the Vivian Beaumont Theater on 22nd August 2010.

The revival has musical staging by Christopher Gattelli with musical direction by Ted Sperling. Sets are by Michael Yeargan, lighting by Donald Holder, costumes by Catherine Zuber, sound by Scott Lehrer and original orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett.
