moulin rouge tour

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is set to embark on a world tour in 2025 – and its first UK stop has been revealed as the Edinburgh Playhouse where it will run from 25th April to 14th June 2025..

The hit show is based on the much-loved turn-of-the-century film about a Parisian courtesan who falls in love with a writer. It starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. At the 74th Academy Awards, it was nominated for eight Oscars, winning two.

The new production will launch in the UK and travel internationally, The West End production will continue its run at the Piccadilly Theatre.

It is set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France, during the Belle Epoque at the turn of the 20th century. The musical tells the story of Christian, a young English composer, who falls in love with cabaret actress Satine, who is the star of the Moulin Rouge. But she has been promised by the manager to a Duke in return for funding his next production. As the young lovers meet in secret, Satine's wedding day draws closer but she hides a fatal secret from both Christian and the Duke. The musical's score weaves together original songs with popular music, including songs that have been written in the 17 years since the film's premiere including movie favourites like “Come What May” and “Your Song,”. The new songs mash-up cover pop hits from the likes of Sia, Katy Perry, Shakira, T Rex, David Bowie, Beyonce, Madonna, Walk the Moon, Adele, The Police and Rihanna, plus some classical music including Offenbach’s Can Can.

Directed by Alex Timbers, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has a book by John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, and music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Justin Levine. The design team includes Derek McLane (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound), David Brian Brown (wig and hair design), and Sarah Cimino (make-up design). Casting is by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher.
