Hello, Dolly!, was set to begin performances this summer at the Adelphi Theatre. Producers of the show today announced that the production has been postponed to 2023. Star Imelda Staunton is committed to film the final two series of The Crown

Ticket holders to the original dates will be contacted and issued a refund. New dates for the production are forthcoming.

Imelda Staunton is taking on the iconic role of Dolly Gallagher Levi in a new West End production of Jerry Herman's (La Cage aux Folles, Mack and Mabel, Mame) Hello, Dolly! It was also recently announced that Staunton is to take over from Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth on the hit Netflix drama, The Crown.

Tony Award-nominee Jenna Russell will join her as Irene Molloy - a widow and a beautiful, smart, fun-loving milliner with a hat shop in New York Who Dolly has introduced to Horace Vandergelder but she yearns for romance with Andy Nyman playing  Horace Vandergelder a wealthy well-known gruff, authoritative, widower who is set in his ways. He is the proprietor of a Hay & Feed store and a client of Dolly Gallagher Levi's. Rounding out the lead cast are newly Harry Hepple who will play Cornelius Hackl (Vandergelder's chief clerk an innocent, enthusiastic, and adventurous young man played by Michael Crawford in the movie and Charlie Stemp more recently in the Broadway production starring Bette Midler), Claire Halse (42nd Street) will play Minnie Faye - Irene's shop assistant -  and Tyrone Huntley (Jesus Christ Superstar) will portray Barnaby Tucker- A sweet, naïve, energetic assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder's Hay & Feed store.

They wil be joined by Craig Armstrong, Gemma Atkins, Jenni Bowden, Alan Bradshaw, Natalie Chua, Joshua Clemetson, Brendan Cull, Bessy Ewa, Isaac Gryn, Ashlee Irish, Jodie Jacobs, Paul Kemble, Emily Langham, Amira Matthews, Sarah Marie Maxwell, Laura Medforth, Matt Overfield, Angelo Paragoso, Tom Partridge, Wendy Lee Purdy, Edwin Ray, Phil Snowden, Bree Smith, Christine Tucker, Gavin Wilkinson and Liam Wrate.

Produced by Michael Harrison Entertainment and David Ian Prod‬uctions the 1964 musical first debuted on Broadway over 50 years ago with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman,and a book by Michael Stewart (42nd Street, Mack and Mabel, Barnum), is based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955. The musical follows the story meddlesome socialite turned matchmaker Dolly Levi who travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the miserly, unmarried ‘half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder, but everything changes when she decides that the next match she needs to make is for herself. It includes classic numbers‘Put On Your Sunday Clothes’, ‘Ribbons Down My Back’, ‘Before the Parade Passes By’, ‘Elegance,’ ‘It Only Takes a Moment’ and of course, ‘Hello, Dolly!

This brand new production re-unites Imelda with Director Dominic Cooke following the critically acclaimed production of Follies at the National Theatre, It will play a limited 30-week engagement at the Adelphi Theatre from August 11th to 6th March 2021. Rae Smith is the costume and scenic designer, Nicholas Skilbeck is musical director, with choreography by Bill Deamer.
