Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote it for two of his children. The story is about a child's dream when his toy train set comes to life and the actors perform on roller skates. The plot features around a group of toy railway trains who race to become the “fastest engine in the world”. Contenders include Greaseball, the macho diesel locomotive and reigning champion and the new challenger Electra described by Control as "the Engine of the Future". In the end it is Rusty who is the underdog steam engine who wins the race and the heart of Pearl who is a beautiful observation car.
