jesus christ superstar at regents parkFollowing its  sell-out success earlier this year,  Jesus Christ Superstar is to return for 41 performances at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from 11 August to 23 September 2017

As compelling today as it was at its inception over forty years ago, Jesus Christ Superstar has one of musical theatre’s most legendary score including I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar.

The production won the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical in the Evening Standard Awards and received 15 nominations in the BroadwayWorld Awards, including Theatrical Event of the Year. With direction by Timothy Sheader, design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Drew McOnie, musical direction by Tom Deering, lighting design by Lee Curran and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph.

Initial casting news is that that four cast members from the 2016 Olivier and Evening Standard Award-winning production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar will be reprising their performances this summer. Declan Bennett will return to the role of Jesus in the Open Air Theatre production. Also returning this summer are Tyrone Huntley with his award-winning performance as Judas, and David Thaxton and Peter Caulfield as Pilate and Herod with Maimuna Memon (David Bowie’s Lazarus, and The Busker’s Opera)as Mary Magdalene, Phillip Browne (Anything Goes – West End, Piaf – Donmar, Ragtime – Piccadilly Theatre) as Caiaphas and Sean Kingsley returns as Annas.Tim Newman (Memphis – West End, Mamma Mia! – International Tour) will play Simon Zealotes. Phil King returns to the production as Peter.

Previous cast members returning to the production are Josh Dever, Rhys Whitfield, Charlotte Riby and Sinead Long. They are joined by Mark Dugdale, Ivan de Freitas, Stevie Hutchinson, Javar Parker, Nuno Queimado, Cleve September, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Kirstie Skivington, Christopher Tendai, Tara Young, and Dale White. The Soul Girls are played by Kayleigh McKnight, Lauran Rae and Nicholle Cherrie.
