END OF THE RAINBOW

Tracie Bennett in End of the RainbowPeter Quilter's End of the Rainbow starring Tracie Bennett as Judy Garland has received four nominations in the 2011 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress, Best New Play, Best Actor and Best Sound Design.

Joining Tracie are Hilton McRae (Anthony), Stephen Hagan (Mickey Deanes), Robin Browne ( Radio Interviewer, Porter and Stage Manager), plus a six piece on stage band.

End of the Rainbow is a new musical which explores the last days of Miss Garland’s life in December 1968 when she was visiting London with her young new fiancé at her side. In a London hotel room she battles with drugs and alcohol as she undertakes an exhausting series of concerts at the Talk of the Town to try and reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation. Sadly until her tragic end she was searching for the crock of happiness at the end of a rainbow that never existed.

Quilter's play is directed by Terry Johnson features some of Garland's best loved songs including  “Get Happy”, “Come Rain or Come Shine”, “The Trolley Song”, “The Man That Got Away” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz.

Tracie Bennett has a long and distinguished career in musical theatre and was last seen in London as Velma von Tussle in Hairspray for which she won the 2008 Olivier Award for the best actress in a supporting role. Prior to that she played Madame Thénardier in Les Miserables.

DISABLED ACCESS TO END OF THE RAINBOW

Sennheiser Infra-red and Induction Loop sound amplification systems are in use  throughout the auditorium the system will work from Row F onwards. DeviCes are at the Box Office, £10 deposit is required.
Induction Loop Necklace
Suitable for persons wearing a hearing aid, the induction loop necklace is worn around the neck. Whilst wearing the necklace switch your hearing aid to the 'T' setting and the sound is amplified. The necklace has an adjustable volume control.
Headset
This device amplifies sound through earpieces similar to regular headphones. Suitable for persons without a hearing aid.
Guide dogs are not permitted inside the auditorium, a member of staff can look after your dog during the performance.
The main entrance to the theatre is on Whitehall. There is no ramp to get into the foyer, and one step into the foyer. The foyer, Bar 1 and Box Office are on street level.
Studio 1 has no wheelchair access to the auditorium. Patrons must be able to transfer out of their wheelchair in the foyer and climb 14 steps up and 1 step down to seats in Row K. For seats in A and E they can go down 25 steps and 11 steps to Row A and 15 steps to Row E, or they can access these seats from the back of the auditorium.
Involves 25 steps down and 25 back up.
