TOUR OF CAROUSEL
Opera North is performing a major new production of the American musical Carousel which opens at Leeds Grand in May.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel is set in Maine and is the poignant story of the faithful factory worker Julie Jordan and carnival barker Billy Bigelow. Billy proves a brutish husband improvident but loyal Julie stands by him. Upon discovering that Julie is pregnant the unemployed Billy sees an opportunity for some quick money by planning a robbery with his unsavoury pal Jigger. Billy is killed during the attempted robbery. Several years later, when he is allowed to return to earth for a short time he seeks out their daughter.
It is one of the most powerful books of musical theatre which features some of the most powerful music ever written for the stage including “You'll Never Walk Alone”, “If I Loved You” and “June is Bustin' Out All Over”.
The cast, chorus and orchestra of Opera North will be conducted by James Holmes. Directed by Jo Davies, with designs by Anthony Ward and choreography by Kim Brandstrup.
THIS TOUR ENDED ON 15TH SEPTEMBER 2012
