Todd Carty

Todd Carty is an actor and director who has literally grown up on television in a variety of roles. He is best known for his roles as Tucker in Grange Hill, Mark Fowler in EastEnders and villainous policeman Gabriel Kent in The Bill.

His first television appearance was in an advertisement for Woolworths at the age of four.  He went on to appear Tucker Jenkins in Grange Hill  from 1978/82 and the subsequent spin off Tucker's Luck  from 1983/5.

During the 70s and 80s Todd appeared in Z Cars , Our Mutual Friend, Drummer and the Headmaster -  all for the BBC. His film work included Professor Popper's Problems , Please Sir! and Krull.

He made his first stage appearance at the New London Theatre as the young Lionel in Lionel Bart's autobiographical musical Lionel.

He took over the role of Mark Fowler in BBC's EastEnders in 1990 following the death of the original actor, David Scarboro and went on to play the part for 13 years until he was killed off in 2004.

Todd then joined The Bill as PC  Gabriel Kent, the evil police officer, which he played for more than two years from 2003/05.

After leaving The Bill  he returned to the big screen as the aristocrat Harvey Van Bollingbroke in the movie The Treasure of Albion and The School That Roared as the eccentric Mr. Haig, for which he was also second unit director.

He has guest-starred in Heartbeat, Holby City and Doctors. In 200 he reprised the role of Tucker Jenkins as the uncle of one the pupils and was brought back once again to for Grange Hill's last ever episode broadcast in 2008.

Carty was a guest on the BBC's I'd Do Anything helping to choose one of the selected boys to play Oliver Twist, for the new West End production of Oliver!. He then went on to appear in the fourth series of Dancing On Ice where he was heavily criticised for his apparent lack of skating ability, but still went on to take part in the 2009 tour.

Carty's radio work includes such dramas as Les Misérables; The Three Loves of Ida Bliss; We Are Happy; Wavelength; Midweek; Jellybones;The London Particulars; and The Chocolate Frigate. Narration work includes Paddington Green; the story of New York subway's Guardian Angels, Scene in New York; The Fame Game; Driving Mum Crazy; Snapshot-Eddie Kidd and the The Jungle Creatures.

Theatre work includes the role of Tucker in the musical version of Grange Hill, The Business of Murder and various pantos including Cinderella, Dick Whittington and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Todd Carty has most recently been playing the hapless Patsy on the tour of Monty Python’s Spamalot and also in London's West End.
